10am – 12.30pm Workshop once a week for 6 weeks.
Bold watercolour landscapes, techniques & triptych picture with Sally Kheng.
Suitable for beginners or intermediate painters.
This 6 week watercolour course with professional artist, Sally Kheng is designed to bring you confidence in this medium. There will be lots of technique demos, helping you to get bolder with your watercolour paints, colours and style. You will be experimenting with different types of materials and tools to learn ways of making fabulous skies, trees and create paintings with dramatic light and dark contrasts. Your will complete the 6 week course by creating a semi abstract tryptic mounted watercolour painting, ready to frame.
Week 1. Tuesday July 1st 10am – 12.30pm.
An introduction to the different materials: Types of watercolour paint, watercolour inks and water soluable gel pens and crayons. A comparison demo and creating an experimental sheet for your reference.
Week 2. Tuesday July 8th 10am – 12.30pm.
Water and brushes: Experimenting with different marks you can make with brushes and other tools. Learning when to use a lot of water and when not to. A demo of brush techniques and where you would use them in a painting.
Week 3. Tuesday July 15th 10am – 12.30pm.
Colour mixing: How to create a beautiful palette for your painting, tips on limiting your colour palette. A demo on mixing, blending colours and lifting out colours. You will create a sheet of blended colourful stripes to use in your final project.
Week 4. Tuesday July 22nd 10am – 12.30pm.
Creating wonderful skies: Using wet in wet, wet on dry and paint lifting techniques to make wonderful watercolour skies. Demos and a work sheet will be generated for your reference.
Week 5. Tuesday July 29th 10am – 12.30pm.
Light and dark: Bringing the drama in light and shadow to your painting. A demo on trees and horizon lines and how to make them using the lights and darks in simple brush strokes. Starting the final tryptic project which will be finished in the week 6 class.
Week 6. Tuesday August 5th 10am – 12.30pm.
A landscape tryptic: Creating 3 watercolour paintings cut from one sheet that can be rearranged on a new sheet of paper to make a collage picture, using all the techniques youโve learnt above.
All the materials for these classes will be provided but please bring your own paints, brushes or other watercolour materials if you would like to use them.
There will be free tea, coffee and biscuits available during your workshops.
About Sally Kheng:ย
Sally Kheng studied art and design at Trent College in Nottingham and fine art at Edinburgh College of Art. She has spent many years sketching and painting her local Lincolnshire landscape and selling her work on the East Coast of England.
She regularly teaches painting workshops using the demo technique making them suitable for all levels of experience. Sallyโs workshops push the boundaries of traditional watercolour landscape painting to semi abstract, bold and colourful representations.
