Description

Sketching a Secret Garden

AT THE JOHN DAWBER GARDENS, THE LAWN, LINCOLN 10am-4pmย

This workshop is suitable for beginners and intermediate artists.

Join watercolour artist, Sally Kheng for some fresh air (hopefully sunshine) and real life inspiration at the beautiful John Dawber botanical Gardens.

We will meet in the Lawn car park at 10am and take the short walk to the secret garden situated at the back of the Lawn gardens.

After choosing a spot and setting up your chair, there will be a sketch demo of the scene. You will then spend 2 hours making your own sketches and drawings of the gardens, flowers and pond with Sally on hand to guide you.

At 12 – 12.30PM we will leave our chairs in our cars at the Lawn and stroll back to Indigo Crow gallery (a five minute walk) and have a bite to eat for lunch before enjoying the afternoon painting in the workshop room using our sketches and photos of the gardens as inspiration.

Sally will help you with your composition and technique using watercolour paints, inks and other water soluable mediums which will be available for you to experiment with.
You will work towards a finished painting that can be mounted at the end of the day to take home. A3 watercolour paper for the afternoon painting session and mounts are included.

If the weather is bad we will go to the gallery in the morning as well and sketch from photos that Sally will provide of the gardens. No one wants to draw in the rain!
Sally will contact you if this is the new plan.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO BRING
Please bring a fold up camping chair or stool for sitting and sketching in the gardens.
Also bring a sketchbook or watercolour pad to draw in, your own watercolour paints, drawing pens/pencils and a water pot if you want to paint in the gardens too.
Please bring some lunch to eat back at the gallery or treat yourself at โ€˜Nonna Juanaโ€™ the wonderful deli now right next door to Indigo Crow.

Sally Kheng studied art and design at Trent College in Nottingham and fine art at Edinburgh College of Art. She has spent many years sketching and painting her local Lincolnshire landscape and selling her work on the East Coast of England.
She regularly teaches painting workshops using the demo technique making them suitable for all levels of experience. Sallyโ€™s workshops push the boundaries of traditional watercolour landscape painting to semi abstract, bold and colourful representations.
