This workshop is designed to develop your observational drawing skills and increase your confidence with this versatile drawing media.
The same methods as those introduced in the Portraits in Graphite workshop will be used for accurate recording of scale, proportion and shape. Then Lucy will explain how and why she uses different types of charcoal and guide you through how she builds up tonal value and uses mark making to add to the illusion of three-dimensional form.
You will be working from photographs which will be provided.
The small group size means this class is suitable for beginners in portraiture through to those who are developing their confidence. Complete beginners please note charcoal is a more challenging media than graphite.
Expect an intensive day of focussed drawing.
This workshop can be taken alone or would be a good progression from Lucy’s workshop – Portraits in Graphite.
