Where Water & Wind Meet explores the distinct yet deeply resonant landscapes of the North Norfolk marshes and coastline, and the rugged, elemental terrain of the Isle of Skye. These works form a quiet dialogue between places shaped by water and weather — between the delicate, tidal rhythms of the marsh and the dramatic, windswept contours of Scotland’s western isles.

Through fluid inks and watercolours, along with oil paint and collage mono prints, each work responds intuitively to its environment. Washes are allowed to settle and disperse; marks emerge organically, guided as much by memory and atmosphere as by observation. The restrained palettes and layered surfaces evoke not only the physical qualities of these landscapes, but their emotional presence — the hush of tidal creeks, the shifting light across distant hills, the weight of cloud and the pull of open horizon.

This body of work celebrates the diversity of the British landscape while drawing attention to its shared elemental forces: water, wind, light and time. By placing the quiet, reflective expanses of Norfolk alongside the raw, sculptural drama of Skye, viewers are invited into spaces that are both seen and felt — landscapes that hold stillness and movement, intimacy and vastness, in equal measure.
Carolyn J Roberts is an artist based in Lincolnshire. She studied Fine Art at Loughborough University, graduating in 2013 with a First Class Honours degree. Her work is inspired by the landscape and a close connection to the natural environment.
