Featuring textile art by Helen Zalewski and fused glass art by Alison Kemp

Join us for a private view Monday 10th March 4-7pm. We’ll also be there on Sunday 16th for our Meet the Artist event from 2-4pm.

Helen Zalewski Textile Artist:

Since I was little I have been surrounded by the hum of a sewing machine. Born in London in 1963 my mother was Spanish and a seamstress, making all our clothes. She was always working away on her old pedal sewing machine.

My father was Scottish and painted in oils, landscapes and birds.

I have a passion for textiles and nature.

I love finding different yarns and fabrics to create pieces that inspire thoughts in others.  My inspiration comes from the countryside I walk in every day.  I find every view is a moment captured in time that I want to share in my own way.

Alison Kemp: Fused Glass Artist:

I’ve always loved crafting and spent many years running a mixed-media craft business.

During this time I dabbled in Mosaic and stained glass, which finally led to the world of Kiln Fired Glass.

Many of my pieces are inspired by nature – I spend hours taking pictures of the trees and woods. The beautiful movement of the water at the beach, and the sun rising and setting. I’m amazed at the different colours in the sky, and how it changes over the day, especially from the mist in the early morning to the bright blues in the day.

All my products are handmade in my little studio, then fired in my kiln for many hours. My larger pieces may need several firings – to add layers, movement and texture. Once cooled I cold work the piece, and then Iain does any drilling/cutting required.

I’m always learning, and thrive to push my glass to its limits. Creating new designs and textures.

The exhibition will be open 10am-4pm Tuesday to Sunday
