Description

Tiffany Stained Glass Mirrors Workshop

During the session you will make 2 stained glass mirrors. A handbag mirror and then an A5 mirror to hang.
The session will begin with an introduction to the Tiffany Stained Glass method using copper foil and leaded solder.
You will learn how to cut strips of glass and wrap each individual piece of glass in copper foil.  We will practise soldering before joining pieces of glass together. Once confident in getting a good solder flow we will start to make the handbag mirror.
You will be shown how to pin the pieces together so that they stay in place and then solder it together.
You will then have to decide if you want to leave the solder silver or add a chemical patina to turn the solder black or copper before giving it a wash and a polish to make the glass sparkle!
In the remaining time you will choose which glass to frame your mirror with. There will be a large selection of pre-cut strips ready for you to cut to the length you need for your frame. You will foil all the pieces of your frame and solder it all together. You will add hanging rings and chain for hanging then add patina,   if desired, apply polish to make it shine then admire your reflection in your creation!
There will be tea, coffee and biscuits available during breaks in the workshop.
  • Please wear closed-toe shoes.
  • Aprons will be provided to protect your clothes
  • Safety glasses and gloves will be provided for handling leaded soldering
  • Gloves will be provided for adding patina to change the colour of the solder
  • Please avoid eating or drinking at the work table

WARNING
It is recommended that you wash your hands after handling leaded solder, although lead is absorbed by ingestion, not touching. It is recommended that expectant women do not handle leaded products.
