13-18 August Solo Exhibition by Rachel Porter

Changing Landscapes, the title of my exhibition, best encapsulates the work I have created over the last 18 months. I have not only responded to the landscape around me, but celebrated the magnificence of an uninterrupted view, which seems to be a rare thing these days. Alongside this, I have reused discarded objects, giving them a new purpose in a decorative way. This started with some soil riddles and has continued with poker chips and map artwork, all of which will be on show as part of this exhibition. This has not been solely a theme running through my own work but something which has been a significant part of my art teaching at school too. My intention is that this work will not only be appreciated for its aesthetic qualities, but also a reminder of the endless waste created in our current disposable society.

For as long as I can remember, I have always had an affinity with the diverse landscape of my home county of Lincolnshire. The open skies, dramatic light and wide-open spaces continually provide a source of inspiration for my work. My aimโ€ฆto capture the unique character of a place; the drama of an impending storm, the wind howling over a remote beach or field; a glorious summer’s day, or a breath-taking sunset. My focus is to create work which excites me, celebrating the landscape through exaggerated use of colour and mark-making in a non-representational way. Allowing the viewer to find their own place within my work, a reminder of a special time, or a moment captured is especially important.

Rachel will be holding her private view at the gallery on 13 August 4pm-8pm. There will be a Meet the Artist Demo Day on August 16.

Rachel will be running a workshop on Introduction to Landscape Painting in Oil on 7 September from 10am until 3pm. Booking is now open on our website click here for more information.
