6-11 August in the gallery

a solo exhibition by Alison Kemp

From beaches to trees, subtle to dramatic the magic that happens when you enhance the reactions in glass at different temperatures in the kiln. Bubbles in glass to unique pieces, it’s all happening in this new collection of work.

From Ali’s website: Many of my pieces are inspired by nature โ€“ my husband Iain and I spend hours taking pictures of the trees and woods. The beautiful movement of the water at the beach, and the sun rising and setting. Iโ€™m amazed at the different colours in the sky, and how it changes over the day, especially from the mist in the early morning to the bright blues in the day.

All my products are handmade in my little studio, then fired in my kiln for many hours. My larger pieces may need several firings โ€“ to add layers, movement and texture. Once cooled I cold work the piece, and then Iain does any drilling/cutting required.

Alison will be teaching a workshop alongside her exhibition on Wednesday 7 August 10am-12pm. Learn to create two screen print fused glass coasters during this morning workshop. It’s a great introduction to creative glass fusing and your coasters can be picked up a couple weeks after.
