Capturing Cat’s Eyes in Soft Pastels

Join us for a focused half-day soft pastel workshop dedicated to one of the most captivating features of any feline portrait – the eyes. In this practical session, you’ll learn how to capture the colour, shine and depth that bring a cat’s gaze to life.
Working step by step with soft pastel pencils and sticks, the tutor will demonstrate techniques for building colour, creating highlights and achieving the luminous quality that makes cat’s eyes so striking.
Learn a simple way to transfer the design or drawing onto your pastel paper, giving you a helpful starting point for your artwork. You will explore layering, blending and fine detail while gaining useful tips that can be applied to any animal portrait.
This workshop is ideal for beginners as well as those with some experience who would like to improve their pastel skills and gain confidence in drawing expressive animal features.

About the Tutor – Fiona Hodges
Fiona is an artist with a real passion for drawing, painting and sculpting animals. A self-confessed “mad cat lady”, she loves studying the unique personalities of cats and capturing their character in a variety of mediums. She enjoys helping students understand how light, colour and subtle detail can bring a cat portrait to life. With a friendly and encouraging teaching style, she will guide you step by step through the process, sharing practical tips and techniques.
