Forgotten Places

(The beauty of abandoned buildings.)

There is something wonderfully fascinating about buildings that have been left behind, their crumbling walls, broken windows and weathered surfaces inside and out, telling stories of another time.

In this workshop we will explore the character and atmosphere of forgotten places, from abandoned cottages and farm buildings to derelict structures.

Beginning with loose, expressive sketches using black acrylic, marker pens or bamboo dipping pens, we will introduce layers of watercolour and vibrant inks to create richly textured surfaces.

Experiment with contrasting colours, unusual mark-making and bold washes to suggest peeling paint, exposed brickwork and the effects of time.

Rather than focusing on precise architectural detail, we will embrace the beauty of imperfection, creating evocative contemporary paintings that celebrate the fascinating textures and hidden stories of abandoned buildings.

All materials included. Suitable for all abilities.
